Day 3 of walking around the city. I was quite hungry; though I wanted something local, this ad caught my attention….Handpecked 🙂 I stopped by a local pub – The Locke Bar. Local food, cozy fireplace, riverside outdoor seating, and live Irish music every night. Psst – keep a look out for Sir Arthur Quinn hanging in the entrance (the Irish eyes smile upon you). As usual, I had the fish pie (similar to shepherds pie). It’s rich and creamy, but not too heavy, and full of large chunks of 4 different types of fish.
As I order a Bailey’s Irish Cream I was reminded of a cute Irish Tale the driver told me when he picked me up at the airport a few days ago . . .
“During WWII the airmen would fly from the East coast of the US. By the time they made it to Ireland, they had to stop for fuel. Since there was inadequate heat on the aircraft, they were freezing. Since the military guys kept asking for something warm, the locals invented Irish Whiskey. On another flight, one brave guy said he didn’t drink and asked for something non-alcoholic. So the locals invented Irish Coffee. After a short time, one fellow said he didn’t like strong black coffee. So Irish Cream was invented. ”
I smiled at the memory of his Irish Tale.
“May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you’re going and the insight to know when you’re going too far.” – Irish Toast
